Wizkid was born in Surulere, Lagos, on July 16, 1990. His father, Alhaji Muniru Olatunji Balogun, is polygamous and his three wives are believed to have 12 other children. Wizkid’s siblings are all females, making him the only son of his father.
For his rise to the top, Wizkid’s mother, Jane Dolapo, praises his Christian upbringing and hard work. His mother, though his father is a Muslim, is a Pentecostal Christian. Wizkid began his church music career at the age of 11. With some of his friends from church, he founded the group Glorious Five.
In 2011, Wizkid released his first solo album. He called Superstar for the offering. As the album helped turn him into a celebrity, it was a fitting title. Holla at Your Child, the album’s lead single, was released in 2010 and was a commercial success. With his R&B, dancehall and reggae style, Wizkid won fans over. He will continue to win the Nigeria Entertainment Award for “Best Album of the Year” in 2012.
