Tampa Bay Rays Biography
On March 9, 1995, an ownership group led by Vince Naimoli was approved following an unsuccessful almost three decades attempting to gain the extension franchise or to enable existing teams to move to Tampa Bay Area. In the 1998 major league baseball season the Tampa Bay Divil Rays started to play. In the first three seasons, the Devil Rays carried on an unconventional multicoloured rainbow through their chest traditional white and grey route uniforms with the texts “Devil Rays” (Home) and “Tampa Bay” (Home).
Also uncommon were the inaugural caps: black with a purple border at home and all black on the road, each with a devil ray and no letters. In 1999, the caps changed and the letters “TB” showed a slightly smaller ray and were all black for home and road games. The Devil Rays wore an alternate black jersey with the same rainbow text as the white and grey uniforms in 1999 and 2000. In 2001 the Devil Rays fell in favour of greener multicoloured text and lilac.
They changed their font on their tops and shortened them to read “Rays” simply while keeping “Tampa Bay” on the grey roads. In 2005, the home uniforms were tweaked to be even greener. The basic house white was turned into a sleeveless jersey with green, sleeved undershirts, and the principal house caps were turned black and green. Moreover, under the name “Ray,” on the chest of house jerseys, was added a small ray with a long tail.
The current primary Rays uniform was used with little change as for the 2008 season the team officially shortened its title from “Devil Rays” to “Rays.” The home jersey is a traditional white with the name Rays on top of the chest in dark blue, while the letter “R” contains a yellow sunburst. The uniform of Rays is grey, and the name of the team is sunburned across the chest. These two features dark blue pipes with a white TB logo, as well as caps. The Ray first alternated jersey has the name “Rays,” but it’s a coloured, black blue material, white characters for the name of the player, and player numbers that are just a white outline. The Rays’ first alternate chest is a yellow sunburn.

Tampa Bay Rays Career
In the first three seasons, the Devil Rays carried on an unconventional multicoloured rainbow through their chest traditional white and grey route uniforms with the texts “Devil Rays” (Home) and “Tampa Bay” (Home). The Devil Rays wore an alternating black jersey with the same rainbow text as the white and the grey uniforms during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. Prior to the 2008 season, the team experienced a massive rebrand and abandoned its name and green-white colour scheme as the Tampa Bay Ray. The new name of Rays was the ray of sunshine (for Florida Sunshine State) that was dropped by the ‘Devil’ and a Navy, Columbia Blue and Gold Scheme was taken up by the team. Finally Sternberg delivered on his promises to raise the team’s wages to 43 million dollars (still the lowest payroll in baseball).
New additions to the Pitchers Matt Garza and David Price Boston have strengthened the team, anchored by Crawford, Kazmir and Pitchers James Shields. Veterans like Garza, Peña and Crawford were lost in the 2010-11 off-season, although the 2011 wildcard ends with the Red Sox with Evan Longoria’s 12th-inning off home against the Yankees, just barely beating.
The Rangers removed the team from the ALDS again. Despite a record of 90–72, the Rays missed the postseason next year, while Price was the first Rays pitcher to receive the Cy Young Award. In 2013, the team returned to the postsea in part thanks to new additions Wil Myers and Chris Archer, following a 163 Game tiebreaker against Texas. But in the ALDS, this time the eventual world, they were also defeated.
