Selena Gomez Career

In 2007, Gomez was cast in a recurring role as pop star Mikayla on the Disney Channel popular series Hannah Montana. Gomez recorded pilot episodes for two prospective Disney Channel programmes at this time: the first, Arwin!, was a spin-off of the Suite Life series, while the second, Stevie Sanchez, was a spin-off of Lizzie McGuire. She went on to audition for the lead part of Alex Russo in the network’s series Wizards of Waverly Place, which she won. Gomez and her mother relocated to Los Angeles after landing the part, while Lovato and her family relocated to Los Angeles in the hopes of achieving comparable success as Gomez. Gomez starred in Wizards of Waverly Place as a teen girl in a household. Selena Gomez & the Scene went on pause in January 2012 after Gomez revealed she would be taking a break from music. After four seasons on the Disney Channel, Wizards of Waverly Place came to an end that year. Gomez then replaced Miley Cyrus in the animated film Hotel Transylvania (2012). On September 28, 2012, the film was released after its world premiere at the 37th annual Toronto International Film Festival. Gomez starred alongside James Franco in the controversial exploitation flick Spring Breakers (2013). Gomez played a more mature role in the film than she had in previous roles, and she reportedly had a “bit of a tantrum on set.”

Gomez revealed in October 2012 that she was working on new music, despite her earlier comments that she would be taking a vacation from music. She later revealed that, rather than another record with her band, she will be releasing her solo debut album. The album’s lead song, “Come & Get It,” was released by Gomez. The song became Gomez’s first Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit. “Slow Down,” the album’s second song, reached number 27 on the Billboard charts. On July 23, 2013, the film Stars Dance was released. It was her first number one album on the Billboard 200 list in the United States, selling 97,000 copies in its first week.  On August 14, 2013, Gomez began her Stars Dance Tour. The tour was planned to continue throughout 2014 after travelling in North America and Europe, but Gomez cancelled the Australian and Asian legs in December 2013, claiming she would be taking a break to spend time with her family. It was reported in January 2014 that Gomez had spent two weeks at Dawn at The Meadows, a treatment clinic in Wickenburg, Arizona that specialised in treating young people with addiction and trauma.

In April of that year, it was announced that Gomez had sacked her mother and stepfather, who had been her managers since the beginning of her career. Gomez’s career was eventually managed by the WME and Brillstein firms. The news of Gomez’s new management sparked speculation that her contract with Hollywood Records was expiring and that she was looking for a new label. On November 6, Gomez surprised fans by releasing her new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants” (2014), confirming months of rumours that she would be releasing a compilation album to wrap off her contract with Hollywood Records. On June 22, 2015, Gomez released “Good for You” as the lead single from her second studio album, which includes rapper ASAP Rocky. The song went on to become her first top-five single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, selling 179,000 copies in its first week. The song was her first to reach No. 1 on the Mainstream Top 40 list. In August 2015, Gomez, along with a slew of other celebrities, starred in the documentary Unity. She returned to the role of Mavis in Hotel Transylvania 2, which was released on September 25. The film received great critical and commercial acclaim upon its release.

She shared a taste of a new song on her Instagram stories on February 4, 2017. Five days later, Norwegian DJ Kygo shared a sample of his collaboration with Gomez on his Instagram account. A week later, Gomez and Kygo revealed the single “It Ain’t Me” via social media, which was released on February 16. The song charted in the top ten of Billboard’s Hot 100.  Gomez released “Back to You,” a new single from the 13 Reasons Why Season 2 Soundtrack, on May 10, 2018. In Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, which was released in July 2018, she reprised her role as Mavis. On July 13, 2018, prosecutors in Los Angeles stated that a woman from New Jersey had been charged with hacking into Gomez’s email accounts and uploading online photographs and other data she discovered there. Along with Ozuna and Cardi B, Gomez was featured on DJ Snake’s single “Taki Taki.” In September of 2018, the song was released.

Gomez released “Lose You to Love Me” as the lead single from her third studio album Rare on October 23, 2019. The next day, she dropped the album’s second single, “Look at Her Now,” as a surprise. “Lose You to Love Me” became Gomez’s first number-one hit in the United States, climbing from number 15 to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 9, 2019. Rare debuted atop the Billboard 200 on January 10, 2020, to positive critical acclaim, becoming her third consecutive number-one album. Gomez appeared in a remix of Trevor Daniel’s song “Past Life” in June. Gomez and South Korean girl group Blackpink collaborated on the song “Ice Cream” in August, which is the second single from Blackpink’s debut Korean-language studio album, The Album. Gomez will star in and executive produce the Hulu comedy series Only Murders In the Building, alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short, later that month. Since Wizards of Waverly Place, this is her first written television role. Gomez was set to produce and feature in the biographical picture In the Shadow of the Mountain, directed by Elgin James and based on the book of Silvia Vasquez-Lavado, the first openly homosexual woman to finish the Seven Summits, in November 2020. The singles “De Una Vez” and “Baila Conmigo” from Gomez’s Spanish-language EP Revelación, which was released on March 12, were released in January 2021. On March 4, the third single, “Selfish Love,” featuring DJ Snake, was released.
