Jacky Rosen was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 2, 1957, to Carol, a housewife, and Leonard Spektor, a car dealership owner who served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Her mother was of Irish, German, and Austrian ancestry, while her father’s family were Russian and Austrian Jewish immigrants.
Rosen received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1979. Her parents relocated to Las Vegas while she was in college, and she followed suit after graduation. She attended Clark County Community College and got an associate degree in computers and information technology in 1985 while working at Summa. She started working for Southwest Gas in 1990 and quit three years later to start her own consulting firm.
Rosen lives in Henderson, Nevada, with her radiologist husband, Larry. They have a child together. She was the president of Congregation Ner Tamid, a Reform Jewish synagogue in Henderson, before joining politics.

Jacky Rosen Career
Rosen, a career computer programmer with no prior political experience, was invited to compete for the U.S. House seat vacated by Republican Joe Heck in the 2016 elections by then–Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. She announced her candidacy for Nevada’s 3rd congressional district on January 26. In the Democratic primary, Rosen received 60% of the vote and barely beat Republican opponent Danny Tarkanian in the regular election. On January 3, 2017, she was sworn into office.
On November 6, 2018, Rosen was elected to the United States Senate, beating one-term Republican Dean Heller to become Nevada’s junior senator. Former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden backed her candidacy, which she announced on July 5, 2017. Rosen stressed her support for the Affordable Care Act during the campaign and chastised Heller for voting to dismantle it in 2017. Rosen voted against Republicans’ attempts to dismantle Obamacare at the time.
Rosen was one of just two non-incumbent Democrats elected to the Senate in 2018, alongside Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona. She is also the first woman and the 37th rookie member of the United States House of Representatives to win a Senate seat.
Rosen was a co-sponsor of a bill that would offer benefits to veterans who had been exposed to Agent Orange. She assisted in the introduction of legislation exempting children of Filipino World War II veterans who were naturalised by President George H.W. Bush from immigration visa limitations.
She also proposed the Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act, a bipartisan bill that would provide a small business startup tax credit to assist veterans who start businesses in disadvantaged areas. The Veterans Reimbursement for Emergency Ambulance Services Act, which she and Senator Kevin Cramer proposed, would compel the VA to compensate veterans for emergency ambulance services to non-VA institutions.
