Benjamin Edward Meara Stiller was born in New York City on November 30, 1965, to famous comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. He was raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side and attended the University of California at Los Angeles for nine months before dropping out in 1984. In 1985, he made his Broadway debut in a revival of The House of Blue Leaves.
Stiller made his big-screen debut two years later in Fresh Horses, opposite ageing Brat Pack members Molly Ringwald and Andrew McCarthy. Stiller’s next work, in 1989, was as a writer for the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, despite the fact that the film was a flop (SNL). Stiller started work in Los Angeles on The Ben Stiller Show, a half-hour sketch comedy that premiered on MTV before being picked up by FOX for a limited run.
